The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS) Mentor Program: Mentors for Success

Mentors for Success is a mentoring program that promotes connection, development, and student success for incoming transfer students at Chico State.

How it works:

Incoming transfer students are paired with a student or staff mentor invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities. Students will learn what to expect, how to approach challenges, and navigate their college experience.

We help incoming transfer students navigate university life by exploring various campus resources and engagement/involvement opportunities. Through our partnership with the College of BSS Student Success and Advising team, you will have the support of your mentor and a more immediate connection to college academic advisors. Our mentors are committed to sharing their own experiences, motivating their fellow College of BSS students, and helping them set goals to be successful. 

Mentors are matched with students in early June, which means you will have the support of your mentor throughout the summer and through your first semester at Chico State.

To get started, students register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experience. We will reach out to eligible students in early June with registration information.

If you sign up for the Mentors for Success Program here is what you can expect:

• Someone available all summer to answer questions and help you as you navigate your move from your previous school to Chico State
• 3 units of upper-division credit toward your degree (SOSC 489 in fall 2023)
• Regular meetings with your mentor (online or in-person) where you can study together, attend events to meet new people, and get more involved on campus and in your major
• Direct connection to staff and faculty in your department for advising and support

• Being fully integrated into the campus community to yield the most from your time at Chico State
• Awareness and utilization of campus resources
• Increased achievement across several areas including GPA, units completed, time to degree
