- What is the current timeline for moving to the new building?
Move Timeline:
May – building complete
June – CMT sets up classroom technology, and KI installs office furniture
July – Moving and ITSS installation occurs
Final steps – Steelcase installs classroom/conference room furniture
- What happens to department offices during the move?If a department is scheduled to be moved on a Monday, department staff should plan to work remotely that day, and come in to unpack on Tuesday.
- What furniture will be in the faculty offices?
Faculty offices will have the following:
- Tall bookcase w/ 5 shelves (36" wide x 66" H)
- Overhead storage box (36" wide)
- Small mobile ped storage under table w/ one file drawer and one pencil drawer.
- Height adjustable (standing/sitting) desk (25" min to 52" max height range) size 24" x 46"
- Fixed side table for guests: 30" x 72"
- 2 guests chairs
- 1 task chair
Faculty pods will have multiple workstations, and we are investigating if there is a lockable space for each pod
- What will the offices look like?
They will look very similar to the offices in the new Science Building. We have reached out to that college to arrange times when Butte employees can see a Science Building office.

- What will be moved from my Butte office to the new building?
Your desktop computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse will be moved by ITSS during July. If you use a docking station for a laptop, that will be moved.
Each office will be issued twelve (12) boxes with lids. The movers will transport those boxes (which need to be taped closed) to your new office. The boxes will measure 15” x 12” x 10”.
- What should I do with valuable or breakable items in my current office?Your best course of action is to take those items home and bring them in once the move to the new building is complete, especially for breakable or valuable items.
- My department has a special collection/equipment/etc. - how will that be moved?We will be working with the moving company to account for all special features of the move. Special groups (CLIC, GSEC, ANTH Lab, GEOG Lab, etc.) will have additional boxes and consultation about movement.
- How many linear feet of shelf space will I have in my new faculty office?The typical office should get 21 linear feet. Pods get about 8' linear on open wall shelves.
- What can I do with books that I don't want to keep?We will be making Butte 105 (the old vending machine space) available as a book drop. Signage will encourage people to take books that they’d like, and as we get closer to leaving Butte we will contact charitable organizations to arrange for donations.
- How can I move my personal belongings home?We’re facilitating pick-up locations for Winter Break, Spring Break, and the period after commencement.
- Are doors keyed or card swipe?You will use your campus ID to swipe into the building. Offices will have physical keys.
- How many power outlets and USB ports will be in each office?Single duplex per wall on average. No USB ports.
- Where is the secure bike parking? How many bikes can be accommodated?Secure bike parking will be at the NW corner next to the bridge, with a capacity of 40.
- What say will each of us have with the furniture in our specific office/space? Will we all have a say if we want an L-shaped vs a straight one vs a U-shaped desk, or upper or lower cabinets, or a bookshelf vs file cabinets? What options are there for the furniture and layout?The furniture shape is dependent on the office layout, and pieces have been selected so that the building is uniform and interchangeable when items are damaged or defective.
- Will we each have a say on which direction/location the furniture will go? My understanding is that it is modular, so how movable is it? If we want to face a wall or the door, will we each get to decide that?There is not much flexibility, plus power and data outlets are placed to accommodate set furniture.
- Are there window coverings?We do have window roller cloth shades, but it differs between exterior and interior glazing. We have yet to see a submittal on these. We also have frosted panels in some areas up to a certain height.
- Are the doors (department and individual faculty offices) glass (transparent) or solid?A bit of a mixture, but more driven towards glass for the most part.
- Offices: How many square feet of space are the offices?Approximate 90 square feet, with minor variances.
- Will the shower be accessed by ID swipe?It will be a hard key with a privacy deadbolt (red/green occupied/vacant).
- Will we have the same phones and phone numbers in the new building that we have now in Butte?Offices with the new phones go with that set individual, with no change to the numbers.
- Regarding offices: Which walls are glass? Are the glass walls frosted/partially frosted? Are there shades or blinds for additional privacy?This is somewhat hard to answer due to variation, but basically there are 195 offices coming over from Butte, so, some offices are exterior, some are interior. Most exterior offices receive shades, while most interior have frosted glass, to an extent.
- Does ITSS want us to do e-recycling of technology that is not moving with us to the new building?Yes, we will coordinate with ITSS.
- What do we do with things that we don't want to move, but which are valuable?Any state property that you do not want to move should be sent to surplus.
- When will faculty get access to the building and their offices?The goal is one week prior to being back on contract for Fall 24.
- What if we want access earlier?Once ITSS has moved and connected your computer this may be possible.
- How many classrooms will the new building have? What are the sizes of the classrooms?

- How much file cabinet space or storage space will there be in the department offices?
Please see the attached layouts which are very close to final. Department storage/file space will be very similar to the new Science Building.
- What should we do with old appliances in departments?Old appliances should stay in place in Butte.
- Will the classroom doors be easier to make lockable? (i.e. active shooter or shelter in place situation)?Yes, they will be like-for-like with the new Science Building. All exterior doors, classroom doors, and depart office main doors will be controlled by SIT button activation.
- Will we be able to keep our GeoPlace etched glass door that is in Butte 111 for the annex in the new building?The new building has a double door for the Geography Annex, so the old door will not be moved.
- What will the main doors the department offices look like?
- Are the walls going to be painted white?The majority will be white, with some accent walls with color.
- Will there be glass display cases for all departments or programs in the new building? We see some labeled on certain building prints but can't tell how many cases there are.There are a few in the lobby area only.
- Will we be moving special classroom furniture i.e. Butte 503 lab tables , chairs, laptop carts to the new building?This was recommended, to reuse the Butte 503 furniture, when we started looking at classroom furniture. - Is room 104 in the new building a HyFlex room? My understanding was that all classrooms are, but wanted to specifically ask about this space.All classrooms are HyFlex.
- Will staff have an opportunity to walk-through the building before we move in so we can strategize where and how we will store our office supplies and items?Lessons learned from the past. No matter how many times someone walks a space and plans, it doesn’t really help. Only after they are in the space and start to unpack and move things around do they realize where everything truly needs to go. For packing purposes, if you really don’t need it…don’t bring it.
- Are there pictures of the department office furniture?We are working on the final package and hoping to have selections soon. The furniture will be very similar to the new Science Building.
- What is the window size for offices along the atrium?
- What will be the name of the new building?

- What if we have locked file cabinets that are missing keys? Should we contact the FMS Locksmiths as needed, or does the college have master keys?Yes, submit a work request with FMS to have the locksmiths open cabinets.
- Will there be times when we can load personal vehicles with personal items we want to take home?Yes. We are working with UPD on three times when vehicles can park next to Butte: during Winter Break, Spring Break, and the week following Commencement.
- I have a small table that I would like to have in my new office. Because it will not fit in a box for our Movers, should I take my side table home and then bring it to campus in August?Yes, please bring home any small furniture items that belong to you, and they can be brought back to campus once we are moved in.
