About Latinx Grad
The Latinx Graduation Celebration, commonly known as Latinx Grad or LGC, was established to proudly honor the accomplishments of Chico State Latinx graduates and to celebrate the invaluable support of their families and friends throughout their academic journeys. Founded in 1978 by the student organization MEChA, this event was created to inspire Latinx students to pursue and succeed in higher education.

This celebration is open to all students who meet the graduation eligibility criteria, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.
Latinx Grad is one of several multicultural graduation celebrations offered at Chico State, reflecting the University’s commitment to honoring the diverse experiences and achievements of its graduates.
When is the Latinx Graduation Celebration?
The 49th Annual Latinx Graduation Celebration will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Laxson Auditorium, with two ceremonies scheduled at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Two ceremonies are held to accommodate growing interest and to help ensure a meaningful experience for graduates and their guests. Graduates are assigned to a ceremony based on their major’s academic college.
Ceremony Assignments by College:
- 12:30 p.m. - Colleges of Agriculture (AGR), Business (BUS), Communication and Education (CME), Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management (ECC), and Natural Sciences (NSC).
- 3:00 p.m. - Colleges of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSS), and Humanities and Fine Arts (HFA)
Latinx Grad is a ticketed event. All guests, ages 3 and older, must present a ticket for entry into the auditorium. Each confirmed participant will receive up to 8 tickets for guests.
Latinx Grad ceremonies do not conflict with University Commencement events.
Eligibility
Latinx Grad is open to bachelor’s degree candidates (undergraduate) and master’s degree candidates (graduate) who meet the following requirements at the time of application:
Participants must have formally applied for graduation through the University and be eligible to participate in University Commencement events.
Participants must be graduating, or have graduated, in Fall 2025 or any term in 2026.
Participants may participate in the Latinx Grad only once for the same degree. Students completing only a credential program or professional certificate are not eligible.
