About Latinx Grad

The Latinx Graduation Celebration, commonly known as Latinx Grad or LGC, was established to honor the accomplishments of Chico State Latinx graduates and celebrate the invaluable support of their families and friends throughout their academic journeys. Founded in 1978 by the student organization MEChA, this event was created to inspire Latinx students to pursue and succeed in higher education.

This vibrant bilingual (English/Spanish) ceremony has continued to flourish over the years and now welcomes both Latinx and non-Latinx students. The celebration is open to all eligible students, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.

Latinx Grad is one of several multicultural graduation celebrations offered at Chico State, reflecting the University’s commitment to honoring the diverse experiences and achievements of its graduates.

Participation in Latinx Grad is optional and complements, but does not replace, University Commencement.

When is the Latinx Graduation Celebration 2027?

The 50th Annual Latinx Graduation Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2027, in Laxson Auditorium, with two ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Two ceremonies are held to accommodate growing interest and help ensure a meaningful experience for graduates and their guests. Graduates are assigned to a ceremony based on their academic college.  Ceremony assignments are announced in April.

Latinx Grad ceremonies do not conflict with University Commencement events.
