The Latinx Graduation Celebration, commonly known as Latinx Grad or LGC, was established to proudly honor the accomplishments of Chico State Latinx graduates and to celebrate the invaluable support of their families and friends throughout their academic journeys. Founded in 1978 by the student organization, MEChA, this event was created to inspire Latinx students to pursue and succeed in higher education.

This vibrant English/Spanish bilingual ceremony has continued to flourish over the years and now welcomes both Latinx and non-Latinx students. This celebration is open to all students who meet the graduation eligibility criteria, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin.

When is the Latinx Graduation Celebration?

The 49th Annual Latinx Graduation Celebration will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Laxson Auditorium, with two ceremonies scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. These two ceremonies are intended to accommodate the growing interest in this celebration. Participating graduates are assigned to a ceremony based on their academic college. Ceremony assignments are announced in mid-April.

  • Latinx Grad is one of several multicultural graduation celebrations offered at Chico State.
  • Latinx Grad ceremonies do not conflict with the University Commencement events.
  • Latinx Grad is a ticketed event. All guests must present a ticket for entry into the auditorium. The number of guest tickets each graduate will receive will be announced in mid-April. (Please consult your graduate regarding guest tickets.)
