sitting at one mile recreation areaWhat do our graduates do? They make lives better for others.

Our graduates help people to escape their daily lives by running hotels, resorts, outdoor recreation, and tourism businesses. They help people lead more fulfilling lives through recreation therapy, children’s programs, and community activities.

They maintain and improve our parks and natural and cultural resources. They create learning environments by organizing tours and planning conventions. They create memorable experiences, from enjoyable restaurant meals to entertaining music festivals.

News & Announcements

DRHPM's award-winning National Public Lands Day celebration has been selected as one of six Signature sites for 2018

About 300 Chico students from dozens of majors will celebrate National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest land stewardship event, on three weekends and in four venues around the Northstate. Environmental events, site stewardship projects, and field research projects–all staffed by Chico students–led to the selection of our NPLD event as one of only six Signature sites in the nation hosted on national forest lands. About 2/3rds of the student volunteers are first term, first year students involved in Camp Wildcat, a program to get Chico's newest Wildcats off to a great start. NPLD and Camp Wildcat are sponsored or supported by the USDA Forest Service, Student Life and Leadership, First Year Experience (FYE), Student Learning Fee, Latinas in Action, five academic departments and the CSU, Chico Research Foundation. The Department of Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management has coordinated NPLD for Chico students since 2014.

Graduate Collaboration seats its 5th cohort, the largest to date

The Department of Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management collaborates with SFSU and CSU, Sacramento to jointly staff a MA program based on the strengths of in person seminars and the convenience of real-time webinars. Program participants have access to 20+ professors and the unique programmatic specialties of three nationally accredited programs. Each campus maintains its own entrance and exit requirements, and manages electives and culminating experiences (thesis, project, comprehensive exam). Students get choices and host departments get a cost effective way to offer an advanced undergraduate degree. At Chico, the undergraduates also benefit since many of the graduate students staff Field School, the department's service learning program.
