Landscape as Metaphor: From Arcadia to Dystopia

August 26 – September 21

Landscape references not only the sublimely pastoral, but it also can reflect the distortion of changing conditions and reactions to events. This exhibition explores the spiritual uses of land and also demonstrates its evocative power to represent human experience.

Unsettled Dreams: Monsters in Print

October 3 – November 2

In collaboration with Dr. Asa Mittman and students of the CSU, Chico Department of Art and Art History, this exhibition explores the depiction and meaning of—as well as the reaction to—the monstrous and grotesque. Fundamental is the prevalence of monsters historically and their varied use and interpretations.

Girl Speak: Shojo Manga and Women’s Prints

November 12 – December 14

A selection of prints by women or depicting women joins current women’s Shojo Manga selected by Dr. Masami Toku, CSU, Chico Art professor. This combined exhibition is the inaugural stop for the national traveling Shojo Manga exhibition.

Pushing Boundaries–Expanding Horizons: 10th Janet Turner National Print Competition and Exhibition

January 27 – February 22

This joint exhibition with the University Art Gallery surveys new, innovative and “must sees” in the print world. Our juror is Anne Collins Goodyear, Co-Director Bowdoin Museum of Art; former Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings, Smithsonian; and President of the College Art Association.

Angles and Planes: Janet Turner and the Built Environment

March 10 – April 12

Commemorating the centennial of Janet Turner’s birth, this selection of seldom seen paintings and prints rounds out the curatorial survey of her work as an artist. While her art is most commonly associated with the natural environment, “Angles and Planes” explores her response to the built environment and Modernist movements such as Cubism.

19th Juried Student Print Exhibition & 12th Ink/Clay

April 24 – May 15

Celebrating student achievement in art making, this exhibition honors our founder’s collection as inspiration and education. Awards will be announced at a ceremony in conjunction with the University Art Gallery and the Art Education area.
