Visual Metrics-Prints and Poetry

In collaboration with the Department of English, selected prints from the Turner Collection have served as inspiration for creative writing students, providing a relationship between poem and print that deepens our engagement with each.

Wide Open Spaces

October 10 – December 10

Janet Turner’s large-scale prints position her as an early ecologist and astute observer of her beloved winged creatures in their environmental place.  Advanced photography students returned to the locations featured in Janet’s prints - the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve - to investigate the space as it exists today, developing a new relationship.

Currency - 11th Turner Print Competition & Exhibition

Currency: 11th National Janet Turner Print Competition and Exhibition

January 30 – March 4, 2017

In collaboration with the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery, this biennial event situates national print artistry through an exploration of the theme of “Currency.”  This is a local opportunity to see a cross section of contemporary printmaking curated by a juror with significant experience in the print world.

Juror: Erin Sullivan Maynes

Erin Sullivan Maynes is Hoehn Curatorial Fellow for Prints at the University of San Diego, California. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 2014. A specialist in the graphic arts, with a focus on prints and print culture of the 19th and 20th centuries, Maynes’ dissertation, Speculating on Paper: Print Culture and the German Inflation, 1918-1924 considered the boom in graphic production that occurred during the most intense period of inflation in early Weimar-era Germany.

Know Her Name: Women Printmakers and Shojo Manga Artists

In recognition of Women’s History month, this exhibition celebrates women printmakers in the Turner Print Collection along with a selection of contemporary Shojo Manga women artists.

22nd Annual Juried Student Printmaking Exhibition and 15th Annual Student Ink/Clay

The annual Juried Student Printmaking Exhibition is a highly anticipated showcase of outstanding work in printmaking, for the 15th year complemented by corresponding works of excellence in ceramics.
