Servando Melendrez

I’m Servando, a freshman from Chico State studying Computer Animation and Game Design. My hobbies include gaming, walking, and traveling. My parents immigrated from Mexico in the early 90's and have worked very hard to improve my siblings and my own lives. I grew up in a rural community known as Westwood California in Lassen County. Growing up here I did not have the same opportunities that students in larger communities can take advantage of. I have tried my best to take advantage of the opportunities that were provided to me although limited. Facing the fury of the Dixie fire, my hometown of Westwood was nearly burnt down but fortunately, it survived. Despite the difficulties of living in a small town, it has a vast amount of benefits that should see the light of day more often. There is a large sense of community here and it really makes you feel like more of an individual. At what other school can you have your face be right there with your senior class of 15 students near the main entrance?  My goal at the end of the day is to help provide resources to my community and to put more attention on rural places such as Westwood since they are often overlooked. I am very excited to have the opportunity to participate in a program like the North State Ambassadors and look forward to what’s to come.
