Once the Final Exam Schedule is published after Schedule Building Rounds I &
II each year, every effort should be made to maintain the accuracy and integrity
of that published schedule with regard to the officially scheduled day and time
for an individual course section's final exam period, based on its standard semester
day and time, or the Common Final Exam Schedule as published. See the charts above.
The published Final Exam Schedule and Common Final Exam Schedule has been developed
over the years to accommodate every possible Standard Class Time configuration,
providing a 2 hour final exam period as close to the original courses scheduled
day and time to facilitate students accommodation of work and family life schedules
already established. When in doubt or confused, please ask for help from Facilities
Reservations to interpret the Final Exam Timetable. Common Final Exams
have been placed to minimize the possible conflict of students having two common
exam times at the same time. Therefore, faculty are encouraged to keep the established
Final Exam Period as published.
When circumstances require it, a faculty member may request in writing or by email
from their Department Chair, copying their Department Secretary, a change of the
standard scheduled final exam period or common final time. When Facilities Reservations
receives the written or email permission of the Department Chair, the faculty member
may work with the Department Secretary, who will further contact Facilities Reservations
to achieve the change.
The following requirements and order of priorities pertain for all requests to change
scheduled final exam times.
- As a faculty member, you must specifically inquire and ascertain
that no student would be adversely affected by the proposed new final exam day and
time. You may not move your own final exam period to a time that creates a conflict
for any students in the course, unless you make specific and convenient accommodation
for the student or students affected. Faculty should ascertain this before they
request a time change, and may need to ask their students again once a specific
proposed change has been negotiated.
- As a faculty member, you may change room locations, if available,
keeping the same day and time, but this must be cleared first through Facilities
Reservations via the Department Secretary. Making room changes during Finals Week
requires special book keeping and maintenance by Facilities Reservations, and your
Department Chair, Secretary and Facilities Reservations staff need to know to be
able to advise students as appropriate for such changes.
- As a faculty member, you may change you standard final to a common
final exam period, with the permission of the Department Chair and arranged by the
Department Secretary, if condition #1 above is met. Facilities Reservations will
make a specific reservation for the classroom to be used during the alternative
standard final exam period, if available.
- As a faculty member, a last resort option is available. You may
change your standard final to another standard final exam period, with the permission
of the Department Chair and through the Department Secretary, if condition #1 above
is met. Facilities Reservations will search for an available classroom and make
a specific reservation for the classroom to be used during the requested Final Exam
Period, if available.
Please note: Due to heavy room usage, not all final exam schedule
or room change requests can be accommodated.
