BSS Faculty Brown Bag Series
Fall 2025 dates coming soon!
Each semester the college deans recognize superior scholarship by including on their Dean's List those students who earn a 3.5 GPA or better on 12 or more graded units the preceding semester.
This is indicated on a student's transcript for each semester earned.
Students will receive an electronic letter of congratulations regarding this achievement.
Honors at graduation shall be granted to students who graduate with a baccalaureate degree within the following cumulative grade point average (GPA) range after final grades are posted:
• Cum laude: 3.50-3.74
• Magna cum laude: 3.75-3.89
• Summa cum laude: 3.90-4.0
This honor is not solely based on a student's Chico State GPA but on their cumulative GPA across their college career.
These accolades are included and printed on a student's diploma and transcripts.
Students will receive a medallion to wear with their graduation regalia at Commencement.
The Registrar's Office provides the College with a list of recipients during the spring semester, which includes the previous summer and fall graduates, as well as potential spring recipients.
Students who apply for graduation late may not be guaranteed a medallion based off of the Registrar's Office list of potential students graduating in the spring semester.
The Registrar's Office does not provide information on future semesters for graduates.
If a student's cumulative GPA does not quite fit into the Latin Honors GPA range before spring grades are finalized, but may qualify once spring grades are final, the student's diploma and transcripts will reflect this honor.
Latin Honors at Graduation are only granted to undergraduate students earning their baccalaureate degrees.
For Commencement, the Office of the Registrar will create rosters of provisional GPA Honors
recipients, prior to the posting of final grades, and in time for Commencement program printing.
The program will include a statement that information published in the Commencement program
reflects students' tentative eligibility for graduation with honors. Official notation of cum laude,
magna cum laude, or summa cum laude is reflected on the final transcript and diploma (including
grades for the final semester's work).
Any questions about this honor can be addressed by the Registrar's Office
