Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
The Civil Engineering (PDF) program provides a well-balanced curriculum stressing fundamentals common to the many fields of civil engineering. Requirements range from basic mathematics and science courses to classes dealing with various aspects of the major including: engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, soil mechanics and foundations, structural analysis and design, transportation and traffic engineering, water resources and hydraulics, and related areas such as surveying and mapping, construction engineering and management, and urban planning and administration.
The program makes extensive use of laboratory courses allowing students to gain valuable insights as a result of practical experiences. Numerous computer applications are implemented throughout the curriculum. Students receive recurring exposure to engineering design, beginning with instruction in fundamental design principles and progressing to participation in multi-faceted, realistic design projects. All lecture and laboratory courses are taught by experienced faculty, not by teaching assistants.
