This series began in the fall of 2003, long before Gateway Science Museum was completed in 2010, which is how the series got its name. The series presented lectures with topics from all disciplines in science and natural history. MWOW lectures were open to all ages. This series has now been concluded.

Antarctica: A Scientific Odyssey(opens in new window) presented by Dr. Fraka Harmsen who spent 6 months on two Antarctica expeditions in the 1980’s and 90’s camping on the ice in unexplored terrain. One of her fellow expeditioners, Dr. John, wrote a book called “Mountains of Madness” that brings to life one of these expeditions, and from which she read excerpts.
