Dr. Herrera is the Chico State's Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Campus Director and instructor for LSAMP's Summer Calculus Boot Camp. Dr. Christine Herrera is an Associate Professor in the Department Mathematics and Statistics at Chico State. As a Gates Millennium Scholar, Dr. Herrera was able to earn a B.S. and a M.S. in Mathematics from Colorado State University, and then a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Texas State University. Upon graduation Dr. Herrera accepted a position at California State University, Chico. Dr. Herrera’s current research interests include areas of equitable teaching practices that foster productive struggle and teacher noticing of student thinking that leverage students' funds of knowledge. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, playing with her dog, hiking, reading, and crafting.
stephanie duarte amezcua
Assistant Campus Coordinator
Stephanie Duarte-Amezcua joined LSAMP in 2019 and participated in the Summer Calculus Boot Camp. As a freshman, Stephanie secured a research position with Dr. Kristen Gorman to study the genetic and cellular cause of idiopathic scoliosis. Stephanie was selected to participate in the 2021 Chico STEM Connections Collaborative Undergraduate Research Program to developed a novel transgenic tool for the study of scoliosis. She has presented her research at the Adelante Investigation and the Department of Biological Sciences Open House. She has been a Dean’s List recipient, a CSU-LSAMP Student Research Scholar, and is a member of the Pre-Medical Association student club. Stephanie graduated in the Spring of 2023 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. Currently, Stephanie is pursuing a M.S. in Biological Sciences here at Chico State.
LSAMP and DA-FANH Intern Partnership
Chico State's LSAMP has partnered with Data Analytics and the Food, Agriculture, Natural and Human Sciences (DA-FANH) to provide students an authentic internship experience. The internship emphasized problem solving, decision-making, and team collaboration skills as they analyzed LSAMP campus data. 
Isaias Velasquez
Isaias Velasquez is a Management Information Systems student at Chico State, actively engaged in the realm of data science. Currently participating in a data science internship, Isaias is also a member of the Data Science Club. Fascinated by the intersection of business and technology, Isaias enjoys the practical application of data analysis within the business sphere. Alongside studies, Isaias enjoys a good workout routine, making time to lift weights and play basketball regularly.
Bejamin Broadley
Bejamin Broadley is an Economics Major and Applied Statistics Minor. Benjamin's interests include Financial and Environmental economics and he is the president of the Economics Students Club. In his free time, Benjamin enjoys a variety of activities that include photography, fishing, and cooking.
