Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (PA) at Chico State aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of public service roles and responsibilities while equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in various public sector fields. Chico State’s Public Administration major has the distinction of being the only program north of Southern California that offers an undergraduate PA degree.

Program Flexibility

The program offers flexibility with many online and traditional in-person courses, enabling students to tailor their education to their personal preferences and professional obligations.

Program Goals

  1. Informed Public Service Leadership:
    • Develop strong leadership qualities, rooted in a deep understanding of public service values and principles.

    • Public Safety: Develop a background to support work in emergency management, fire safety and protection, and law enforcement.
    • Healthcare: Understand the complexities of public health policy and administration to promote the well-being of the community.
    • Environmental Stewardship: Learn how to manage natural resources responsibly and implement sustainable practices for long-term environmental health.
    • Planning and Development: Acquire the skills to design and execute urban and regional development plans that cater to the needs of the community and promote economic growth.
    • Human Infrastructure/Social Services: Develop a strong foundation in social welfare systems and policies to support vulnerable populations and foster social inclusion.
