Dr. Chela Mendoza Patterson Scholarship

The Chicano Latino Council is asking for your support on a new initiative: funding the Dr. Chela Mendoza Patterson Scholarship!

Dr. Chela Mendoza Patterson is from Oxnard, California, and, as a first generation college graduate, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine.  During her undergraduate pursuits, a mentor explained that if she wanted to work in higher education, she would need to obtain a post-baccalaureate degree. She and her husband moved to the East Coast to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Mendoza Patterson went on to earn a Master’s degree in Counseling and Personnel Services from that institution, and later her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Mendoza Patterson applied the axiom, “for, by, and with students” continuously in her work actively supporting historically underserved students to achieve their higher educational goals. The Chicano Latino Council thanks you for your support to continue that legacy! To continue to fund the education of undergraduates who demonstrate community service or activism within the Latinx community, please use the link below.
