Ring Roll

Integrated into the landscape adjacent to Colusa Hall, Ring Roll by artist team Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector is a sculpture comprised of interlocking steel rings of varying diameters and widths—some tubular, some flat, some appearing to spring from the ground. According to the artists, “We worked to create a dynamic composition of intersecting curvilinear movement that would harmonize the environment and create a conceptual intersection relating to the architecture of the school and the natural rhythms of the garden site.”

“Ring Roll” covers a 30-foot long, 8-foot wide and 10-foot high area within the Creekside Educational Garden, near Colusa Hall. The artwork has three sections made from powder-coated steel. Each section was welded together and assembled into the overall composition on site.

Viewable from the Creekside Plaza and several campus pathways, the rings of the sculpture appear to move, even spin, as the viewer’s perspective changes. Enhancing the garden site and the outdoor public space, the sculpture adds a dramatic and playful element to the landscape.
