BA in Liberal Studies

Program Highlights

Liberal Studies students are multidisciplinary high achievers who receive preparation in the Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, the Arts, and Human Development. Graduates are prepared for leadership in a wide range of fields including education, business, law, government. They learn to communicate well orally and in writing, critically evaluate problems and use evidence to bring about solutions. Each year, at CSU, Chico, faculty members nominate students for the Lt. Robert Merton Rawlins Award based on their scholarship, involvement in extracurricular activities, and outstanding accomplishments. Students are nominated and awarded based upon these standards, along with evidence of students' sincere dedication to life-long learning and purposeful effort to excel in every aspect of their lives. Forty-four Liberal Studies majors have received the esteemed Rawlin's award in the past 10 years. One third of all the Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude) awarded in our college are bestowed upon graduates of the CSU Chico Liberal Studies program.

More recently, California State University-Chico's Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies online program on has been ranked #21 in the entire US for quality and affordability. The CSU Chico online Liberal Studies program is the only campus among the twenty-three CSU campuses with this distinction and it was listed along with Harvard and other prestigious schools. In a review of schools across the nation, CSU Chico's online program stood out in both quality and affordability.
