Parent & Guest Orientation Program

Families play an important role in a students’ transition to college. We want to support you by introducing Chico State resources for you and your student. We will hold concurrent orientation program session for parents and family members on December 3. The virtual Orientation session is free of charge.

8:30-8:50 – Summer O Welcome & Alumni & Parent Relations Welcome

8:50-9:15 – Academic Advising  

Join Academic Advising Programs to learn more about Chico State’s dual advising system, academic requirements, course planning strategies, and important class registration information.

9:15-9:40 – Financial Aid

This is a presentation about Financial Aid at California State University, Chico. The presentation covers types of aid, cost of attendance, accepting financial aid in the student center, student actions and responsibilities required to establish and maintain aid eligibility, and ways to cover college costs.

9:40-10:05 – Student Financial Services

Join Student Financial Services to be sure you understand tuition and registration fees, viewing your student account, and receiving financial aid disbursements and refunds.

10:05-10:30 – Campus Involvement ft. Student Life and Leadership 

Wildcat Life: How your student can get involved and make their Chico State experience the best possible! Chico State has a student organization for everyone, ranging from sport clubs, fraternities and sororities, religious organizations, culturally affiliated groups, to major-specific groups and so many more! Join in to hear the benefits of getting involved, and how your student can maximize their time outside of class while managing the realities and risks that accompany their newfound independence.

10:30-10:55 - Academic Support ft. Student Learning Center 

How can you best help your student prepare for a new academic environment? What conversations might you have with your student around college expectations and time management? Staff from our Student Learning Center will share strategies and resources available to support students’ academic success.

11:00-12:00 – Virtual Information Fair

12:00-12:25 - University Housing 

What are the expectations of students residing in University Housing? What do we hope students gain from living on campus? Learn more about roommates, student safety, meal plans, the parking lottery and other key programs and policies designed to help your student transition to their new on-campus home. 

12:25-12:50 - University Police Department 

How safe is Chico? Whether you come from a small town or a big city, it is important that students be mindful0 about personal safety and understand what to expect when they come to Chico. Join University Police to learn about the conversations you might have with your student over the summer, and hear about the available safety resources designed to empower your student and support smart choices on their path towards success.
