1. How to Apply
Apply to the CSU, Chico Graduate School online at: https://www.calstate.edu/apply/graduate(opens in new window)
You will apply to the MS Program - Option in Dietetics. Applicants to the CSU Chico Graduate Program - Option in Dietetics are pre-selected with priority being given to CSU Chico students. This is a once per year application for Fall admission only (no Spring admission).
The application deadline is December 1.
2. Provide Required Supplementary Information
Complete supplementary information required for the Graduate Program – Option in Dietetics
- Graduate Application Checklist (PDF) for Graduate Program - Option in Dietetics
- Two letters of recommendation (PDF)
- One must be an academic letter and the other must be a letter from an employer verifying 40 hours of work experience in nutrition/dietetics has been completed
- No more than two letters will be considered
- Release of information for letters of recommendation/reference waiver (PDF) must be attached with the letter of recommendation
- Statement of Purpose addressing why you want to pursue an MS In Nutritional Science. In addition, the statement of purpose should address why you want to enter the dietetics profession, your short and long-term goals, your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement, any experiences that have helped prepare you for your career, and any other information you would like the committee to know.

- Must include work experience in nutrition/dietetics including at least 40 hours of experience in an acute or long-term care setting
- Pre-Requisite Course Clearance Form (PDF) - Graduate Program - Options in Dietetics
- Writing sample (academic paper expected)
- One unofficial transcript from all colleges or universities attended since high school
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an ACEND accredited program
- Verification Statement of completion of an ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) within the past five years or a Letter of Intent from the DPD Director
Prerequisites for the Graduate Program – Option in Dietetics include:
- 1 semester of inorganic chemistry or general chemistry
- 1 semester of organic chemistry
- 1 semester of microbiology
- 1 semester of physiology
- 1 semester of statistics
These courses must be completed prior to applying to the Graduate Program – Option in Dietetics. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA.
3. Selection Process
The Graduate Program – Option in Dietetics can select a maximum of six students per year who have met all the admission requirements. Applicants to the CSU Chico Graduate Program – Option in Dietetics are pre-selected with priority being given to CSU Chico students.
Step 1:
Interviews will be conducted for the Dietetic Internship by mid-December with a panel of NFSC faculty and CSU, Chico DI Preceptors.
Step 2:
Applicants accepted into the DI will be notified and then have their applications for the Graduate Program reviewed.
Step 3:
Applicants accepted into the Graduate Program will be accepted into the Graduate Program – Option in Dietetics.
