Amy Magnus, Ph.D.

Civic Engagement Faculty Fellow and Rural Partnerships Liaison

Dr. Amy Magnus is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice. She joined the Office of Civic Engagement in 2021 and is Civic Engagement's Faculty Fellow and Rural Partnerships Liaison. Dr. Magnus earned her Ph.D. in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine with emphases in Law, Society, and Culture and Race and Justice. Her scholarship centers rural people and communities by examining the politics of rural inequality, social vulnerability, and grassroots activism in rural regions. Coupled with her scholarly work, she regularly engages in social justice efforts, community-based projects, and organizing work to help communities facilitate desired social change. As a scholar-activist, Dr. Magnus is passionate about bringing rural communities' experiences and knowledge to the forefront of civic engagement work!
