Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

The Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship is available for award to an upper-division undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a course of study preparing for a career in state or local government finance.

Amount: $10,000

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current full- or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration and expecting to be enrolled in the spring semester (including spring graduates).
  • Belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by student's academic advisor, the dean of the graduate program (graduate students) or department chair (undergraduate students).
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship program administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship

The Frank L. Greathouse Government Scholarship is available for award to two graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in full-time study preparing for a career in state and local government finance.

Amount: $10,000 (for each award)
Closing Date for Applications: February
Award Announcement: April

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate accounting program preparing for a career in state and local government finance and expecting to enrolled in the spring semester (including spring graduates).  Undergraduate students must be in the process of completing at least their junior year by the time the scholarship is awarded.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by student’s academic advisor or the chair of the accounting program.
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship program administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Goldberg-Miller Scholarship

The Goldberg-Miller Public Finance Scholarship is available for award to full-time graduate student who is pursuing an advanced degree and is preparing for a career in state and local government finance.

Amount: $15,000
Closing Date for Applications: February
Award Announcement: April

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current full-time student in a graduate program that prepares students for careers in state and local government finance and expecting to be enrolled in the spring semester (including spring graduates).
  • Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by student’s academic advisor or dean of the graduate program.
  • Student has not been a past winner of any GFOA scholarship.

Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship

The Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship is available for award to four students enrolled in part-time graduate study that are employees of a state or local government and are preparing to continue their career in state and local government finance.

Amount: $10,000 (for each award)

Award Announcement: April

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Employed at least two years by one or more state or local governments.
  • Recommendation by your employer.
  • Currently a part-time student in a graduate program in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, economics. or business administration that prepares students for careers in state and local government finance and expecting to be enrolled in the spring semester (including spring graduates).
  • Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by your academic advisor or dean of the graduate program.
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship program administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
