Filing For Graduation

Monica Lopez Acosta, a graduate student studying in the library

What is Graduation?

Graduation is the official granting of a degree after you have met all of your degree requirements. Graduation is often confused with Commencement, which is different and takes place before you have officially graduated. This is when we celebrate your accomplishments at a public ceremony, usually held at the University Stadium.

However, Graduation is the last step in your degree process and happens once the following has been completed:

  • You have submitted your graduation clearance form
  • After your thesis/project/or other culminating activity is complete
  • After all grades have been finalized by the Office of the Registrar
  • After the Office of Graduate Studies has reviewed your record and signed off on everything
