CSU and State Policies and Mandates

STATE

AB 1826(opens in new window) requires collection and composting of yard trimmings and food scraps from all State and business facilities

AB 341(opens in new window) requires recycling collections at all State and business locations

Executive Order B-18-12(opens in new window) calls for significant reductions in state agencies' energy purchases and GHG emissions. The Executive Order included a Green Building Action Plan requiring all state-owned buildings and major renovations being design after 2025 will be net zero energy with an interim target of 50% for all new facilities to be net zero by 2020.

Executive Order B-30-15(opens in new window) sets an interim GHG emissions target of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.

AB 3232(opens in new window) requires a reduction in residential and commercial building emissions to at least 40% below 1990 levels by 2030.  

SB 100(opens in new window) requires the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to establish renewable energy portfolio standards of 50% by the end of 2026, 60% by close of 2030, and 100% by 2045.

Executive Order B-55-18 (PDF) sets a statewide carbon neutrality goal of 2045 or sooner, and to achieve an maintain net negative emissions thereafter.  

CSU

Adopted in 2014, the CSU Sustainability Policy (PDF) applies sustainability principles across all areas of university operations.  

CSU Single-Use Plastics Policy (PDF) requires the elimination of single-use plastic water bottles, straws, and bags as well as all Styrofoam.
