What is this service

The mission of the Center for Technology Equity is to ensure that every member of the campus community has equitable access to the digital tools and resources necessary for thriving in today's interconnected world. We aim to empower students, faculty, and staff with the means to seamlessly access online learning platforms, research materials, and collaborate with peers and instructors, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. In today's educational environment access to technology equity resources is not just a luxury, but a fundamental requirement. Our services include:

What is Canvas?

Canvas is the learning management system used by Chico State. Canvas supports instruction, creates learning environments, and fosters student success.

What is Office 365?

Office 365 is a suite of applications designed by Microsoft to help with productivity and completing common tasks on a computer. You can create and edit documents containing text and images, work with data in spreadsheets and databases, and create presentations and posters.

Adobe Creative Cloud

What is Adobe Creative Cloud?

Creative Cloud is a collection of 20+ desktop and mobile apps and services for photography, design, video, web, UX, and more. Now you can take your ideas to new places with Photoshop on the iPad, draw and paint with Adobe Fresco, and design for 3D and AR.

All Chico State Students have access to Adobe Creative Cloud for free which can help enhance your educational experience while at Chico.

What is Adobe Stock?

Adobe Stock is now available as part of the campus Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Adobe Stock is a collection of high-quality images, graphics, vectors, and videos. All current campus Creative Cloud users now have access to Adobe Stock. Employees and students that don't currently have Creative Cloud can request access.

What is Kaltura?

Kaltura is a media tool that allows students to record, share and upload media to Canvas. To access Kaltura from Canvas, click on MyMedia located on the global navigation bar on the right side,

Once you click on the MyMedia page, you will see an “Add New” button. This button will give you an option of tools that you are able to use.

Basic Kaltura Tools:

  • Media Upload- a way to upload media to MyMedia and share in Canvas. Great option if you prefer using your mobile device to record and upload videos. This tool allows you to upload videos directly to Kaltura.
  • Webcam Recorder- an easy way to record videos from your webcam or built-in camera. This tool will record your video and pick up audio and directly drop it in Kaltura.
  • YouTube- a tool that allows you to copy and paste any YouTube video link directly to your MyMedia

Assistive Reading Software
Kurzweil 3000 is software that helps people with reading or learning difficulties increase their reading speed and comprehension. Kurzweil 3000 can read virtually any scanned document or electronic file on your computer or the Internet, using high-quality synthetic speech. Plus, with Kurzweil 3000, words are highlighted in a contrasting color to the reading unit making tracking easier.

Free or Reduced Cost for Internet Access

The Affordable Connectivity Program through Excess Telecom provides qualified students with free or reduced-cost internet access. Come sign up at our in-person event or click the link below to sign up for services online.

If you receive a Pell Grant, or receive assistance from any government programs such as SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, etc. you are eligible to receive an Android tablet that comes with a 15 GB/month data plan for just $11.

Here's how to sign up:

  1. Visit Excess Telecom
  2. Fill out the online application to see if you qualify. The system connects to a government database to check for eligibility.
  3. Choose your plan. The 15 GB/month plan is free, but there are bigger data plans available for a reduced fee.
  4. Pay a one-time $11 fee, and the Android tablet (retail $159) is yours to keep.  
  5. Enjoy your data plan! Your plan will need to be renewed for eligibility every 12 months on the Excess Telecom website.

    Will my credit card information be stored?

    No. Excess Telecom does not store your information and you will not be billed if you go over your data allowance.

    Why is this so cheap?

    Excess Telecom has a contract with the government to provide this low-cost mobile broadband service and mobile device to households who already receive government assistance. Read about this program at the government website,
