School of Social Work

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW)

Welcome to the Bachelor in Social Work program at Chico State! We are glad you are considering social work as your major. We offer both an on-campus program as well as a Distributed Learning (DL) program, which allows students to take courses largely on-line with periodic visits to campus for in-person instruction.

You can find all of the information you need to apply to the BSW Professional Sequence Program and a list of the required courses on this page.

Several years ago, the Social Work program was compelled to declare impaction due to a limited number of field placements for all of our masters and bachelor’s students in our service region.  Impaction means that we can use an admissions process to limit the number of students entering the social work major in the junior year – essentially our application to the Professional Sequence process.

Fortunately, over the past two years we have been able to admit the vast majority of students who apply as long as they have completed the required prerequisites.

We are pleased to invite applications to our BSW Program from all qualified candidates(opens in new window).
