Personal Information
Agriculture education is my passion! As a past member of my local FFA program in Dinuba, I began to appreciate the impact of the agriculture industry on my life. Upon my high school graduation, I attended Reedley College where I became involved in Ag Ambassadors and earned an A.S. in Agri-Business. I then moved to San Luis Obispo to become a third generation Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo Agriculture Student where I completed my undergraduate degree in Agri-Business (2003), teaching credential (2004), and M.S. degree in Agriculture Education (2010). My wife and I taught high school agriculture and served as FFA advisors for ten years on the central coast of California in Paso Robles (2 years) and in the small rural San Joaquin Valley town of Dinuba (8 years). In fall of 2014, my wife Christine, two young daughters, Moriah and Madeline, and I moved to Oregon to pursue a dream, of earning a Ph.D. to become a teacher educator for future agriculture teachers. I completed my Ph.D. during the Summer of 2018 where I studied the perception and lived experiences of agricultural students who completed industry internships. I am now fortunate to work and teach in a student centered college where I can interact with incredible and creative students who are willing to take risks and learn.
Research and Professional Interests
Effective and creative teaching facilitation strategies is at the center of where I like to challenge myself! From this passion, I enjoy developing in-service teachers, constructing service learning projects for students, facilitating and planning short term high impact student trips, guiding students towards their career interests through internships, and helping to train the next dynamic leaders in agriculture.
