Break Closure Information

  • Winter Break Closure: Winter Break: 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, through 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024.

NOTE: Licensees in all communities except University Village, must vacate their residential community 24 hours after their last final exam or when the residence halls officially close, whichever comes first. No meals are available through Dining Services during winter Break Closure.

  • Summer Closure: 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024.
NOTE: Licensees must vacate their residential community 24 hours after their last final exam or when the residence halls officially close, whichever comes first. No Licensees may remain in University Housing, including UV, during the Summer Closure.

You are expected to be out of your hall no later than 6:00 PM.

The HUB will be open until 8 pm if you need to wait for a ride.

Late Stays Request

  • Late Stay requests are available for residents living in Whitney, Esken, Mechoopda, Konkow, Éstom Jámani, Shasta and Lassen who need to stay after 6:00 PM on the Fridays prior to breaks starting. All residents approved for late stay must vacate their space no later than noon on the Saturdays of break. Students must be in good standing with University Housing to be eligible for Late Stay.

How to Submit a Late Stay Request

  1. Click on the Resident Center tab on the left side of the University Housing website and log in.
  2. Once in the Resident Center, click on the Requests tab then select Late Stay Requests from the dropdown menu and complete all required fields.
  3. Residents requesting a late stay should receive an email response, approvals for late stay will be reviewed daily.

Things to do BEFORE You Leave

  • Before leaving your room, please check your heating and cooling units [HVAC].
    • Lassen/Shasta/Éstom Jámani Halls: Please turn the room thermostat to 60° and the fan to low. DO NOT turn off the HVAC unit.
    • Mechoopda/Esken Halls: Please COMPLETELY turn off your HVAC unit.
    • Whitney Hall: Turn HVAC units to DO NOT turn off the HVAC unit.

University Housing does not take responsibility for student property left in the halls.

  • It is recommended that you take all valuables home with you (computers, stereos, TV/DVD). If you have any questions, contact your RCC. (Please refer to your Student Housing License Agreement section 16 – Insurance).
  • If you have a bike, take it home or store it in your room. However, you are not permitted to store a motorcycle, moped, electric scooters, or gasoline in your room. This is a State Fire Marshal regulation. For removal and impounding, the responsible resident will be charged. UPD will remove bikes left in bike racks over the break and if they are not registered to you, you may not get them back.
  • All pets and emotional support animals must be taken with you for the break.
  • All refrigerator contents that might expire should be thrown away or taken with you.
  • Remember to:
    • Check your heating and cooling units (see above)
    • Lock your windows
    • Turn off all lights
    • Take out your trash and recycling
    • Close and lock your door
  • Any vehicles left over break in the B lot must display a valid campus parking permit.
  • University Housing staff will be entering all rooms to perform routine maintenance and security inspections. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure that no potential fire or safety hazards exist while the halls are closed, and to confirm that the above steps have been completed. However, you can expect that any policy violations (alcohol, covering smoke detectors, appliances, lounge furniture, etc.) will be reported and documented for follow-up after the break period. Any violations from the previous break should be resolved and failure to do so may result in further consequences.
