Introduction
California State University, Chico is committed to working in an open and accountable way that builds trust and respects all members of the University community. The University aims to represent itself in a professional manner in its dealings with staff, faculty, students, other members of the University community, and the general public, but recognizes that occasionally things can go wrong. In many cases issues, problems or misunderstandings can be dealt with by discussion between the parties involved, but in other instances, it may be appropriate to pursue the matter in a more formal way.
What is a complaint?
A complaint may be defined as “an expression of dissatisfaction or concern that needs a response”. The expression of dissatisfaction or concern may take the form of an informal verbal complaint, an informal or a formal written complaint.
A complaint may be more than an objection to a decision or action by the University, its students or its staff. Examples of complaints may be claims of offensiveness, wrongdoing, misconduct, poor performance or ineffectiveness among others.
When making a complaint please outline:
- The details of complaint
- Consequences for you as a result
- Remedy you are seeking
