General Financial Aid

Please visit the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office for information on state and federal grants and loans, as well as scholarships specific to Chico State. Specific information regarding these financial aid opportunities may be found on the website, or by scheduling an appointment with an advisor.

Exceptional Circumstances Appeals - Financial aid eligibility may be reconsidered based on new financial information not reflected on your FAFSA or CA Dream Application. Credential candidates who have substantial non-reimbursed travel expenses for their field placement may also request a Cost of Attendance increase by submitting a Travel Budget Adjustment Appeal. Scholarships

The deadline for students to apply for academic year scholarships is February 15. Students can access the application electronically by going to Financial Aid & Scholarship Office. An online letter of recommendation must accompany the application.

Credential Student Scholarships Available - School of Education Scholarship Matrix (PDF) - Credential Students do not apply to a particular scholarship, all university students complete the same application and the scholarship office determines who qualifies for scholarships. The School of Education would like to thank all of our donors for making these opportunities possible.

Math and Science Teacher Scholarships Available - A collaboration between the Department of Education, the Center for Math and Science Education, and the Teacher Recruitment Program (TRP), called the Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI) at California State University, Chico is focused on recruiting students to become math and science teachers. Applications for the Teacher Recruitment Project (TRP) and Noyce Scholarships for future Math/Science teachers are now available. Golden State Teacher Grant Program - The Golden State teacher Grant program (GSTG) is for students who are currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program to earn a credential in the high need field of special education and commit to teach at a priority school, in California for four years, within five years after completing a teacher preparation program. 

GSTG awards of up to $20,000 are available to eligible, currently enrolled students in California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved teacher preparation programs within a California institution of higher education. College and University campuses will use their own selection criteria and procedures to identify eligible students. Apply for a Golden State Teacher Grant here: https://gstg.csac.ca.gov.

Grants

The College of Communication and Education (CME) Office of Outreach, Research and Grants (ORG) provides proposal development support and project management services to School of Education Faculty seeking and successful in securing external funding. An overview of the services and funded projects supported by the CME ORG office as well as staff contact information can be found at the CME ORG website.

GREAT Teachers Pipeline (opens in new window)- The Growing Responsive, Equitable, Adaptable & Transformative Teachers (GREAT) Teacher Pipeline is a federal grant to support underserved & local students who plan on becoming teachers & teaching in the NorCal region. Funding is available to NorCal future & current educators at Chico State throughout all stages of their education & in all subject areas.

The award amount is determined by your educational status for Fall 2023:

  • Undergraduate & Pre-Credential Students receive up to $6,250/Semester
  • School of Education Credential Program Students receive up to $12,500/Semester
  • School of Education Master's Students receive up to $7,000/Semester
