Cost of Attendance Appeal
Students may qualify for this Cost of Attendance appeal if they experience unplanned or higher costs:
- the purchase of a personal computer needed for school
- living expenses (food and housing) beyond your estimated cost of attendance
- auto repairs expenses for your vehicle
- other expenses
This appeal is now available for 2024-25.
Please submit your appeal by the following date to allow sufficient time for processing:
- Attending fall only - submit by November 1
- Attending fall and/or spring - submit by April 15

- Log in to your Financial Aid Account(opens in new window). If you have not logged into your Financial Aid Account before, you will need to create an account. (To create an account, enter your name exactly as it appears on your FAFSA or CADAA).
- Click on the "Manage Requests" button at the top right corner of the screen
- Click the plus sign to the right of "Professional Judgements: Special Circumstance - COA Appeall" for the appropriate academic year
- Enter a short one-sentence reason for your appeal, then click submit
- You will see the message "Your request has been successfully created!" Click "Ok"
- Under "Needs Action" click the "Professional Judgement" box
- Click the red bar with the words "Professional Judgement: Special Circumstances - Cost of Attendance Appeal"
- Click "Fill Out"
- Follow the instructions to complete the electronic form and e-sign it
- Click "Submit". You will see a box with "Success". Read the message and click "Ok"
- After submitting your appeal form be sure to upload any required supporting documentation
- Finish your appeal by clicking the “submit” button at the bottom
Appeals will be reviewed in the order received. You will receive notice of our decision in your Chico State email.
