Operations and Supply Chain Management

Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems (BIS)

The Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) profession continues to expand due to technological innovation, global competition and the need to increase productivity and reduce costs. Efficient, cost effective performance across the supply chain requires coordination of sourcing, logistics, production operations, inventory management, and information technology.

OSCM professionals operate at the hub of an organization, interacting regularly with all other business functions in the firm including sales and marketing, finance and human resources, and with suppliers and customers located around the globe.

As business and technology becomes increasingly sophisticated and complex, employers demand a higher level of skill and expertise. The OSCM option addresses this business challenge with a dynamic educational program. Many of the courses have been designed to facilitate the possibility of a student pursuing a professional certification such as the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional).

An Operations and Supply Chain Management degree from Chico State prepares you to work in fast-paced business environments. From the manufacturing floor to the warehouse and loading docks, you'll be in charge of getting products to the right place. Desk time is often minimal, but you'll need to know the technology that runs the top businesses in the world to get your job done.

Getting involved with the OSCM Club, the BIS Society, and the SAP Club, will promote you to the front as you interact with the partners that will soon be looking to hire you.

“I was assigned to manage 25 people on my first day at Target Distribution Center. Over the next six years I rose to be the Executive Team Leader.

I would not have had the skill set to do my job without my degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management from Chico State.” — Staci Harris, 2002 Alumna

"When I graduated from Chico State, I never expected to one day lead the global supply chain for the world’s largest winery. The education I received with the College of Business provided excellent preparation for me in this field and gave me the technical foundation I needed to help solve these challenges along with the teamwork and social skills I needed to enlist the support of others inside and outside of the company.

As an undergrad, I never imagined that one day I would be traveling around the world visiting suppliers and customers. I consider myself truly fortunate for the preparation I received at Chico State and hope today’s students make the decision to pursue a career in this challenging and rewarding field." — Rob Donoho, 1984 Alumni
