Study Abroad & Exchange

Information for Accepted Exchange Students

Students coming to California State University, Chico on exchange are slightly different from other International Students (see below). Most of the information on the International Student & Scholar Services web site will be useful to you. HOWEVER, some of the information (e.g. University Fees and Course Registration) may not apply to you. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Team Study Abroad & Exchange: exchange@csuchico.edu.

Exchange students must apply to Chico State through their home campus. Once we receive your nomination and application from your home campus, you will receive support and regular updates from Team Study Abroad & Exchange and International Student & Scholar Services.

How exchange students differ from other international students:

  • Attend Chico State for one semester or one academic year (not degree-seeking).
  • Do not pay tuition at Chico State.
  • Enrolled in courses by Study Abroad & Exchange advisors at Chico State.

Estimated Costs Per Semester:

Bachelors Degree (undergraduate level)

Estimated Expenses: Semester
Books/Supplies$575
Personal (Transportation, Textbooks, Supplies)$952
Room/Board$5,657
Insurance$347
Total$7,531

All amounts listed above are estimates and are subject to change.

  • Estimates above are for 1 semester (5 months) of living expenses. This number should be doubled for yearlong students.
  • All exchange students receive a tuition fee-waiver while at Chico State. This allows access to all University services, i.e. student health center, library, computer labs, free local bus transportation, WREC recreational center, etc.
  • In rare cases specific courses may charge a fee for use/purchase of special equipment or to facilitate field studies. Exchange students must make payment for these “Special Course Fees”
