Study Abroad & Exchange Returnee Opportunities

One of the first things students say to us when they return is, “How can I work for the Study Abroad & Exchange office?” 

Internship Opportunities:
Each semester, the Study Abroad & Exchange office at Chico State offers students the opportunity to earn up to three units of academic credit through a semester- or year-long internship. The number of units awarded depends on the specific internship.

  • SAE Marketing & Outreach Internship
    This position’s primary duty is to promote all Study Abroad & Exchange (SAE) Programs within International Education & Global Engagement (IEGE) initiatives that focus on marketing, outreach and recruitment on campus and across International Education (IE) networks. In addition, the SAE Marketing & Outreach Intern supports with the development and maintenance of materials and resources to promote IEGE efforts and to better support students, faculty and staff at Chico State in exploring global opportunities. Under the guidance and support of the Study Abroad & Exchange Coordinator, this position will closely collaborate with professional and student staff at IEGE, campus and IE partners. Students must meet the required number of hours (45 hours per unit – up to 3 units) to receive credit for this internship.
  • SAE Peer Advisor Internship
    This position’s primary duty is to support Study Abroad & Exchange (SAE) students with program and/or location decisions, applications, visas, and general program-specific information under the guidance and support of the SAE Coordinator. This position is open to all students who have studied abroad or away through Chico State SAE programs (CSU IP, Direct Exchange, Faculty-Led Programs, USAC, AIFS and/or NSE), and who will continue to be enrolled at Chico State during the duration of the role. This position will closely collaborate with team SAE, which includes professional and student staff, Marketing & Outreach (M&O) interns and other Peer Advisors. Students must meet the required number of hours (45 hours per unit – up to 3 units) to receive credit for this internship.

Paid Opportunities:
While paid positions are limited, we occasionally hire for the following roles when they become available:

  • Study Abroad & Exchange Program Assistant
    This position’s primary duty is to serve as the bridge between Study Abroad & Exchange (SAE) and International Student and Scholar Services efforts. While the Program Assistant supports inquiries and promotion of all study abroad and exchange programs, most of their time is dedicated to CSU IP, Direct Exchange, NSE, and International Exchange Student processes. Under the guidance and support of the SAE Coordinator, this position will closely collaborate with the Lead SAE Advisor for CSU IP, Direct Exchange, and NSE, and the rest of the SAE team.
  • Marketing & Outreach Coordinator
    This position’s primary duty is to promote all study abroad and exchange programs and supporting resources to
    students, faculty and staff at Chico State. Under the guidance and support of the SAE Coordinator, this position will closely collaborate with team SAE, which includes professional advising staff, student employees, and interns.

Volunteer with the Study Abroad & Exchange team:

Throughout each semester, we arrange many events on campus to help educate our students and community about studying abroad / away and the benefits of the internationalization of our campus.

Some of these activities include:

  • International Education Week
  • International Movie Nights
  • Student Forums
  • Conversation, Culture, and Cuisine (CCC) - this always includes FREE food!
  • Become an "Alumni Ambassador" (speak/e-mail with future participants about your experience)
  • Country-specific Break Out Sessions at Orientation
